On our way back from our wedding and honeymoon in Las Vegas we stopped by Sequoia National Park for a day trip. This was in July of 2007. The park is located in the southern region of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California. The nearest cities are Fresno and Visalia.
These giant trees only grow in specific conditions. They grow above 5000 foot sea level. These groves are now protected.
And they grow BIG. The General Grant is among the oldest living things on Earth.
Besides the trees there are some gorgeous views from the rock outlooks. This is Moro Rock and only one of several outlooks with some incredible views. We chickened out on the attempt to go all the way out onto the rock. We are wimps when it come to great heights. I may want to go back and give it one more try with my new camera.
There is also Tunnel Log. You can drive through this if your vehicle is not too tall.
And if you don’t want to drive through it, you can climb up and walk on it.
And of course the rocks have their own tunnel – Tunnel Rock.
And then there is wildlife… squirrel… (This is for those that like the movie Up). For those that may be more informed about their wildlife, it might be a chipmunk.
This park is full of wonders. We did night stay overnight in the park but it is so gorgeous we would like to sometime in the future. We recommend that you plan for some time to see all the wonders that this park has to offer. In addition to Sequoia National Park there is also Kings Canyon National Park next door. We would like to go back.
