While passing through the town of Orange, Virginia we stopped at this museum honoring the fourth U.S. President and the county of Orange.
James Madison may not be a household name to most Americans but he was know as the “Father of the Constitution” for his role in developing our US Constitution and Bill of Rights.
There is a lot of history here at this museum about one of the Founding Fathers of our country.
He was famously married to his cousin Dolley Madison. She helped make the role of First Lady an important one.
One of the strange things about this museum is that it is actually two museums in one. The upstairs is mostly devoted to James Madison while the downstairs is devoted to historical items from Orange County with a heavy emphasis on the farming history.
There is an antique car on display. Sorry but I do not know the exact model.
There are many antique farming tools on display throughout the downstairs area.
One of the more interesting displays is a replica household from long ago. Most will never know this lifestyle that was commonplace in the 1800 – 1900 time period.
While returning upstairs I passed by this old safe. I love old safes.
No museum is complete without a gift store. This one is just inside the entrance door.
This was an interesting place to visit. I have to say we were expecting more Madison than Orange County antiques but it was still interesting to see how people lived a hundred or two hundred years ago in developing our country.
