While in Florida we found this wonderful memorial park in Sanford off of Lake Monroe.
This story is about the World War I Monument pictured below.
This monument has been moved around a bit but has been preserved through the years.
The park is filled with signage dedicated to the various wars and conflicts that Sanford’s citizens have been involved in through history. There are conflicts that span from the American Revolution to the present.
The names of those that served and died are honored through the tiles that encircle the park.
For those that do not have a name there is the Unknown Soldier tile among others.
Each conflict has a tile to signify the event.
At the end of the park there is a beautiful statue that has 4 significant quotes inscribed on it’s 4 sides. The backdrop is Lake Monroe.
This sign looking toward the Lake Monroe Marina tells of the city’s history.
This is the view looking back towards the city center. A beautiful setting to honor those that served for this area.
If you are in the area on a beautiful day this is a great place to honor those that have served and learn a great deal of history at the same time.
