While vacationing in the Black Hills area of South Dakota we ventured into Hill City. We were hungry and chose this place to find some food. As we entered into the city we found the Hill City Train Station so we stopped by to see what was there.
This was a beautiful area that has many interesting items included within the area. This picture looks back at the 1880 Train depot.
The train depot doubles as the home to the South Dakota State Railroad Museum. We did not visit the museum due to our time constraints. In other words, we were hungry and were headed to Mt Rushmore once done with lunch.
Great view of the engines waiting their turn in the engine yard.
We found the Slate Creek Grille. This turned out to be a great place to get some lunch. While moderately priced it had some really good food.
Hill City – Artist’s Corner
Across the street from the grille was Jordan Dahl’s Chainsaw Art on display. A wonderful variety of art for the purchase or just viewing.
From the grille looking left this is the view down E. Main Street. The great looking car was a picturesque bonus.
The view to the right is down Main Street where you can find places like Mangy Moose Saloon, Bumpin’ Buffalo Bar and Grill, and Warrior’s Work &Ben West Gallery among other businesses to visit. We will definitely return to this city in the future to take in the train and its various shops when we can spend more time.
Our only disappointment was lack of time to fully see more of this beautiful city. We really want to see the museum and ride the train as well.
