Driving through Greenville, TX along interstate highway 30 we saw this memorial in a field. I must admit that we were slowing down for the Collin Street Bakery nearby. We feature the bakery in another post. This statue is of Audie Murphy who is America’s most decorated soldier.
This is a really nicely designed monument.
As told above this memorial is dedicated to all of the Hunt County veterans of which Audie Murphy is the most famous.
As you can read above Audie Murphy did a heck of a job on the Germans in WWII.
This memorial on the grounds is dedicated to the Confederate. A bit odd that its not dedicated to the veterans of the Civil War but to the Confederate state itself. First one I’ve seen like this so far.
The memorials are actually located on the grounds that are home to the American Cotton Museum. A fact I did not know until I was looking on the map. This is Wilkin’s Log Cabin. Don’t know the story about this as there is a sign (see gallery) but it doesn’t say much.
This is a wonderful memorial to see. If you are in the neighborhood I recommend it.
